MortgageCapital.com - A Review

MortgageCapital.com is the online home of home mortgage lender Mortgage Capital & Investment, a highly reputable company located in the U.S.A. I had the opportunity to visit their website earlier this morning, and I wanted to share a few of my thoughts on it with you.

The company itself specialises in various mortgage plans from the first time home buyer loan to construction loans. Their website is designed to be very user friendly, and easy to navigate, and I personally found it to be highly informative as well. Not only do they detail their varied loan programs, they also provide an online loan status tool.

You can have a look at the Mortgage Capital & Investment website by clicking on the link I have added into this entry.

Look At What Is Number 10

Ok. I found this to be too funny in a sad sort of ironic, pathetic kind of way! I was reading through the top ten terrible tech products as put together by CNET, which I do recommend that you surf on over to if you just want to shake your head, and groan at some of these losers => but the funniest of all has to be #10 .... drum roll please... Windows Vista. I am soooo glad I did not run out and purchase a copy of it when it came out ... thanks to the fact I married a techie. ;)

Less Than A Month To Go

As of today it is less than a month away from Christmas Day. So are you feeling stressed yet? Personally I refuse to let the holidays freak me out any more. Although, I admit I occasionally do get a bit stressed about finding gifts that are meaningful or useful to the person I am giving them to. And lets face it, as much as it is wrong to overly commercialise the holiday we all do, and the shopping stress is what gets to most of us beyond anything else.

Recovering From Black Friday

So I wonder how many of my peeps are recovering from Black Friday bargain hunting? I know that at least two of my Canadian friends made the trek across the border today to take advantage of a weak American dollar, and massive sales at U.S. big box outlets.

I played it very low key today in preparation for Cyber Monday, that is the Monday directly following Black Friday, and refers to the beginning of the Christmas online shopping season. And that is how I prefer to do most of my own shopping, online, and avoid the crowds. :DB):D

The Scoop On A Portable Scanner

Have you ever considered how using a portable scanner would make life on the road so much easier? I have. And in doing so I have looked at a few different types of portable scanners, and thought that I would take the time to tell you a little bit about the ScanShell 2000N.

I do not own a ScanShell 2000N or the 2000NR version, but I have heard some good things about this portable scanner, and its companion software for use with Microsoft Outlook. Firstly, it is very lightweight as far as scanners go. It only weighs 14 ounces making this scanner very easy to tote about. B)

Another good feature is that no external power is required for this machine, it is equipped with a USB 2.0 port connection. And what I really appreciate about this particular model is that it has a high resolution of 600 dpi and color! B) Definitely a great way to scan those business cards, and maintain one's contacts while on the road!

The ScanShell 2000N is currently being sold for just $149.00 US. which to me is a very reasonable price for the product, and what you are getting.

If you would like some more info on this product you can check out the ScanShell Store online or give them a shout at +13109286675

British Shoppers Hitting US Stores

Apparently it is not only us Canadian shoppers that are taking advantage of a very weak US dollar. I was reading through the BBC website this morning, and came across a news item that states that the average Brit, and Europeans in general can save huge bux on everything from clothes, to electronics making a flight, and accommodation costs worth a shopping trip in the U.S.A. Sudden Cardiac Arrest

My husband's father died 20 years ago due to sudden cardiac arrest. And I have to admit to you that because of it I am very concerned about my own hubby's heart health especially as he gets closer to the same age his father was when he passed at 52 years of age.

If you have similar concerns about yourself of someone you love you may want to have a look at this online resource InsideCardiacArrest.com, and in particular at the Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator or as it is commonly known an ICD Implant.

They say knowledge is power, and in the case of sudden cardiac arrest I would say it may also save your life.

I Love Jones Soda....But.....

...ham flavoured soda pop is just ewwwww! Yes, I said ham, as in pork flavoured soda! Who would want to drink such a thing? Well Jones Soda Co has decided there will be some sort of market for it, even if only a kitch one as it will be part of a special Christmas release. Read on:

SEATTLE, Washington (AP) -- Coming soon next to the Coke and Pepsi in a store near you: ham-and latke-flavored soda to make your holiday feast complete.

It even will be kosher, the company making it says -- including the ham.

Jones Soda Co., the Seattle-based purveyor of offbeat fizzy water, is selling holiday-themed limited-edition packs of flavored sodas.

The Christmas pack will feature such flavors as Sugar Plum, Christmas Tree, Egg Nog and Christmas Ham. The Hanukkah pack will have Jelly Doughnut, Apple Sauce, Chocolate Coins and Latkes sodas.

"As always, both packs are kosher and contain zero caffeine," Jones said in a statement.

The packs will go on sale Sunday, with a portion of the proceeds to be given to charity, the company said.

Well even I have to admit the kitch value is worth it! And the artwork on the bottles are definitely collectors items! :)

Gorilla Trades Blog - A Review

Watch Those Shipping Costs!

I was surfing around eBay this past weekend looking for some deals on Nintendo DS games for the kiddo. I saw one auction that had a fairly good "buy-it-now" price ... and then I checked the shipping. The ship cost looked ok. at $10 bux until I realised this US seller wanted that in British pounds! That my dears is over $20 bux in shipping! Needless to say I moved on, but I wondered at how a price for an item can be listed in US funds, but the shipping in another currency. Just goes to show you, be very careful when making purchases online, and insure you know the full terms of what you are getting into before clicking that bid button.

Mr. Toilet's House

Yes, that is a teel and glass, two storey, toilet-shaped house! It was unveiled this past weekend, in South Korea. Funds raised from renting the house will go towards providing sanitary toilets in developing countries, which in my opinion is a very cool idea, and certainly unique!

Here is a news snippet on Mr. Toilet's House:

SEOUL (AFP) — A South Korean lawmaker and public hygiene activist on Sunday opened his 1.6 million dollar toilet-shaped showcase house designed to campaign for cleaner loos worldwide.

The two-storey home, complete with a nameplate reading "Mr. Toilet's House", is now ready to be occupied, according to owner Sim Jae-Duck.

Billed as the world's only toilet house, the 419-square-metre (4,508-sq-foot) concrete and glass structure rose on the site of Sim's former home in Suweon, 40 kilometres (24 miles) south of Seoul.

Sim, 74, who told AFP last month that his mother gave him birth in a bathroom, has actively campaigned for "clean and beautiful" toilets since his service as Suweon mayor from 1995-2002.

His campaign has since turned many of public restrooms nationwide into facilities boasting paintings, fresh flowers or even small gardens.

Sim's house was completed before the Korea Toilet Association, which he funds, holds a forum in Seoul later this month to launch the World Toilet Association to take his campaign worldwide.

FreeRice A Viral Marketing Success Story

Have you heard of FreeRice before? I first read about it on the BBC earlier today while surfing the net, and wanted to tell you about this fun game that you can play online, and help the world's hungry at the same time! How cool is that! B)

Here is a snippet from the BBC:

An internet word game has generated enough rice to feed 50,000 people for one day, the UN's World Food Programme (WFP) has said.

The game, FreeRice, tests the vocabulary of participants. For each click on a correct answer, the website donates money to buy 10 grains of rice.

Companies advertising on the website provide the money to the WFP to buy and distribute the rice.

FreeRice went online in early October and has now raised 1bn grains of rice.

That is enough rice to feed 50,000 people for one day, the WFP said on Friday.

Full BBC Article Here

The fact that word of mouth via the net has made FreeRice so popular has earned it the right to be called "a viral marketing success story" in my humble opinion. :D

Cash Advances & Payday Loans

Here on Nuttin' But Pimp I have written about Payday Loans, and/or cash advances in the past. Regular readers will recall that I have related to you how I have turned to payday loans here in Canada when times were really rough a few years back, and I am not ashamed to admit that to you. After all, almost everyone of us has or will go through some financial difficulties at some point.

A cash advance or payday loan can help out when you are strapped for cash and need to pay off a certain debt or bill by a deadline, or could use some extra bux to top off your groceries. Provided you understand the terms of the payday loan, and are confident that you will be able to pay it off when needed to they can really be a financial lifesaver.

Not all payday loans are created equal though. If you are thinking about applying for a payday loan or cash advance then you might want to check out the link I have added in above. It is to a website that can provide you with different quotes for loans up to $1,500 dollars. The money can be electronically deposited into your account, and you can set up a pay back schedule.

In Flanders Fields

by John McCrae, May 1915

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep,
though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

To all those that served, and are serving. Thank you.

Travelling To France

There are so many wonderful, and enchanting reasons to visit France. The Eiffel Tower as pictured above at sunset (how romantic oooh la, la), the wineries, the louvre, Versailles, and the Rhone Alps just to name a handful immediately spring to my mind when I think of France. And France hotels are known to be amongst the top ranked in the world.

Paris hotels are available to suit just about every budget, so a trip to the "city of lights" may be more cost effective then one might initially think. And there is so much to do there, whether you wish to go shopping or take in some of the world class museums or how about partake in a romantic river cruise....sigh....

Of course France is much more than just Paris. Nice is a very popular tourist destination within France, and Nice hotels can be booked at bargain prices even those situated in the centre of the city near the famed Promenade Des Anglais and the sea. Just lovely.....

Happy Travels! :D

Douglas Adams Predicted This Could Happen...

Have you ever used an online translator to communicate with someone? I have used them, but only to try to decode certain web pages, phrases etc. After reading an article entitled "Online translator sparks diplomatic row" I wondering if I should use them at all....read on for a snippet:

An email sent to the Dutch foreign ministry by a group of Israeli journalists has sparked a diplomatic row, thanks to an unreliable translation by Babelfish..

The journalists wrote a set of questions before a planned fact-finding trip to The Netherlands, running them through the online translation tool to turn them into Dutch.

The beginning of the email read: 'Helloh bud, enclosed five of the questions in honor of the foreign minister: The mother your visit in Israel is a sleep to the favor or to the bed your mind on the conflict are Israeli Palestinian.'

The translation was flawed as Babelfish confused 'ha'im', the Hebrew word for 'if', with 'ha'ima', which means 'mother'.

Makes you wonder what other misunderstandings may have arisen over the use of Babel Fish eh!

New York CityPass Is Hot!!!!!

Those of you who know me well already know how much I love NYC. For those of you who do not: I LOVE NEW YORK!!!!! lol!

And I am very excited this morning (can you tell) to introduce my peeps to the New York CityPass, which is the hottest gift idea for those of us who love NYC. Read on.....

A New York CityPass will save you big bux on some of the very best NYC attractions that this hot city offers. Naturally this will leave more money for important stuff like souvenirs!

B)

If you have always wanted to check out the Guggenheim, (highly recommended by me!) The Museum of Modern Art, and the Empire State Building Observatory to name just three then you can save a whopping 50 percent off the admissions using a New York CityPass. How cool is that my peeps!

Another really cool thing about it (and why it makes a cool gift idea for those on your list that love NYC or are planning a trip there) is that it lets users skip most main entrance ticket lines, and get right into the attraction.

I know that I would definitely be happy receiving a thoughtful gift like this one. CityPass can also hook you up with overnight delivery and gift wrapping services that include a gift card.

Funny Commercials From Around The Globe

If we must be subjected to advertising then it may as well put a smile on our faces. :D The above video clip is a compilation of funny commercials from around the globe, and to be honest I had only seen one of them before. I have to admit my fave is the very first one, being a Canadian eh! I also like the one based around the urban legend of the "gaseous" date...;)

Help With Debt Consolidation

Debt Consolidation is a hot button topic in many North American households these days. It seems to me that we are all under an increasing burden of debt.

CircleDebt.com is a website dedicated to bringing information to those in credit trouble. Not only do they provide users with free debt consolidation loan quotes, they also provide their users with a message board, and helpful article on the subjects of credit, and debt. Worth checking out in my opinion if you are interested in this topic, and seeking further info.

Date Rape Drug Linked To Children's Toys

According to the BBC, Australia has issued a nationwide ban on a Chinese-made toy after it was found to contain a substance linked to the date-rape drug GHB. How scary is that! Here is a snippet from the news item:

Three children have been taken to hospital after swallowing tiny beads from the Bindeez game - one of the best-selling toys in Australia.

The beads were coated in chemicals which transformed into the banned drug when swallowed.

It is the latest in a series of safety scares over products made in China.

US toy maker Mattel has recalled more than 20 million Chinese-made toys this year.

Full BBC Article Here

Again, how scary is this! I mean lead poisoning is frightening enough, but this is just awful, and quite frankly really pisses me off! Does no one inspect these toys before they are allowed for sale to our children???

Travel Club Med Style

The pumpkins have been taken off the front porch, and the leaves have all but fallen off the trees that surround our neighbourhood....Fall is in full swing, and before you know it winter will be here!

Brrr....I hate the cold! And if you are like me you may already be thinking of booking a winter getaway, perhaps somewhere, hot, and sunny with some white, sandy beaches!

Club Med is a popular dream vacation choice with very good reason. If you have never indulged yourself in a Club Med holiday before you may want to give some serious thought to it, or check out the linky I have added to this entry.

Imagine visiting a resort that has been set up to cater especially to you, whether you are a single, a couple looking for something very romantic, or a family looking for a resort that will make sure that your kiddos are happy, safe, and entertained. And the best part is that Club Med resorts are located throughout the world in all sorts of different climates etc. They have something for pretty much every type of traveller.

Sounds wonderful doesn't it! Sigh.....

If you are into the Greek Islands or perhaps looking for adventure in French Polynesia have a look at Club Med resorts, which are also quite affordable. B)

The Lady Does Not Want US Dollars

Gisele Bündchen is the richest super model in the world. It has been reported that she earned a whopping $30 million bux last year alone!!! However, she is refusing to be paid in US currency according to a recent BBC news article. Here is a snippet:

The world's richest model has reportedly reacted in her own way to the sliding value of the US dollar - by refusing to be paid in the currency.

Gisele Bündchen is said to be keen to avoid the US currency because of uncertainty over its strength.

The Brazilian, thought to have earned about $30m in the year to June, prefers to be paid in euros, her sister and manager told the Bloomberg news agency.

However, Ms Bündchen, 27, declined to comment on her pay arrangements.

Last week the dollar hit long-term lows against the euro, the British pound and the Canadian dollar.

Full BBC Article Here

Currently I make most of my money in US dollars, and I can tell you it does hurt. I do understand Gisele Bündchen's thoughts on this, and hope that we eventually see some strengthening in the US dollar.

Looking For An Old Banjo or Mandolin

If anyone has or knows of anyone who has an old banjo or Mandolin that they don't use and can donate, it would be going to a great place. There is a music program started in Webequie, Ontario. A reserve that is above the trap line.

This a little information on Webequie:

Webequie First Nation is located on the northern peninsula of Eastwood Island on Winisk Lake, 540 km (336 mi) north of the city of Thunder Bay, Ontario. Webequie is a fly in community with no summer road access. The primary way into the community is by air or winter road, which connects to the Northern Ontario Resource Trail. The First Nation have the 34,279 ha Webequie Indian Reserve. The Webequie or Webiqui Indian Settlement also have reserve status. Webequie First Nation is a member of the Matawa First Nations Management, Inc., a regional tribal council and a member of the Nishnawbe Aski Nation.

The registered population of Webequie was 714 persons in September of 2007, of which the on-reserve population was 253.

Again, this is going to be used for a very good cause! They are starting up a music program and are in desperate need of one of each of these instruments. If you can help or know someone who can, please do let me know, and I'll hook you up with the right peeps to get your donation up to the reserve! :D

Purchasing A Good Cheap Digital Camera

One of the gift ideas on my eldest daughter's holiday wish list is a new digital camera, as lately she has really taken to photography as a hobby, and interest. So this past weekend I took the opportunity to do some web surfing, and look for a good quality cheap digital camera that she might really like. :D

I had a look at the Samsung S630S, and the HP Photosmart R937 8MP 3X Digital Camera, which are both listed, and being featured on the Tech Bargains website.

I have found that Tech Bargains.com is a good online resource for purchasing electronics etc. Their website is designed to be easy to use for the end user, and has all the available online deals, and coupon codes updated 24/7 so shoppers never miss out on bargains! In fact if you want you can grab the Tech Bargains RSS feeds, and get the latest sales, scoops, etc as they come in. Very cool for the serious bargain shopper like myself! B)

So I haven't settled on one specific digital camera for my daughter's gift at this point. I'm going to continue checking out the different specs on the various cameras. Once I am ready I will be sure to grab the best deals through Tech Bargains, and save myself some serious $$$$.

Happy Shopping!

Profiting Off The Dead

I came across an article today that is in regards to souvenir sellers in NYC. What struck me about the news article was that these are not exactly ordinary souvenir type items that you would expect to find such as t-shirts, baseball caps, etc, no these folks are hawking photos of the WTC site on fire etc....very grisly.

Here is a snippet from the article:

NEW YORK - Manuel Suarez's job hasn't earned him many fans. He keeps moving, to avoid catching the eye of the police. About 10 times a day, he is screamed at by strangers.

It's a lot of fuss for a souvenir seller. But Suarez's wares are Sept. 11 photo books sold to tourists at the World Trade Center site, and they spark an array of reactions as visitors see the images of smouldering ruins and pictures of people plummeting to their deaths.

People often accuse him of profiting off the dead. More often, however, they buy what he is selling.

The area around the trade centre site is a popular tourist destination and has become an open-air market for everything from Rolex knockoffs and Sept. 11 figurines to photo books showing the destruction of the attacks.

For some victims' families, the commerce is dismaying.

"To think that these people are coming here using this horrible disaster that our country suffered, to profit off it totally for themselves, is tasteless," said Lee Ielpi, who lost his firefighter son in the attack and later co-founded the Tribute WTC Visitor Center. "It should not be a place where people come and make money on the dead."

Full Article May Be Read Here

You know I am all for making money - obviously! But this, this is too much in my own humble opinion. Maybe in about 200 years something like this would be somewhat acceptable, but now ... it is too soon .. and way to fresh.

Insurance Marketing

Not all Insurance Marketing services are created equal or the same for that matter, at least that is what I have been told in regards to it. Therefore I was quite curious earlier this afternoon to spend some time looking into, and checking out this insurance marketing resource at Quotes Auction.com, and learning a bit more on what it is exactly that they are offering. If this is a topic that interests you then please do read on....

Firstly, what immediately caught my eye is that they are offering through a special promotion that is currently running two hundred dollars worth of high quality insurance leads absolutely free, yes, I said free! Simply click on the link I have provided to you within this entry (above) to be taken directly to the website for further details on this. All you have to do is fill in a simple to use form in order to be contacted.

The second thing that impressed me with this site is that they provide numerous articles on various aspects of insurance marketing to the readers of their site. These are very easy to locate on their left-hand navigation bar, and are quite informative in my own humble opinion.

Again, for further info, and pricing, as well as sample leads click on the link above to be taken directly to the website.

1000 Boxs

I had the opportunity to visit 1000boxs.com a little earlier on this afternoon, and check out the service that this website is offering to its users. It was pretty interesting in my opinion, and if you are looking for a new possible type of advertising venue please do read on, and learn what I found out during my visit.

Firstly this type of advertising strategy is still quite new so I am not certain how successful it might be, but again I did find the concept of it quite intriguing!

If you click on the link I have added in for you above you will be taken directly to the 1000boxs.com home page. There you will see a grid of very colourful, wee boxes. If you click on one of these boxes it will expand giving you info on a specific site, with a link etc. It is actually pretty cool, and opening up the individual boxes reminded me of opening up a Kinder Surprise. :D It was fun!

Advertisers are promised creative control of what goes into their own unique, and personal box. There is also a blog that is a companion to the main site that gives much more detail, and info for those who might be interested in getting involved. B)

Gorilla Off Topic

So what is Gorilla Off Topic you might be asking yourself, and if so, just hang on because I am quite happy to have the opportunity to tell you!

Firstly let me start off by explaining the "Gorilla" part. The "gorilla" is the one, and the same from Gorilla Trades, which are those highly funny, investment TV commercials that there has been so much hoopla about on the net lately. I have blogged about the "gorilla" ads on this very blog in the past. You should check them out!

Well now we have got Gorilla Off Topic to check out, and the title is pretty self explanatory. Gorilla Off Topic is the blog of the "gorilla" and it is completely off topic, in other words it is about anything, and everything under the sun with the exception of stocks, and investments.

I surfed on over to Gorilla Off Topic, and read some of the entries, these include sports commentary, and some bizarre news items, which I found to be interesting if not down right weird. I can tell you it does have the makings of a good blog, and is worth your while to click on the link above, and have a look for yourself. Happy blog surfing! :D

Canadian Shoppers Riding The Soaring Loonie

I was listening to a radio report this morning that announced Sears Canada is dropping its prices on this side of the border. This is of course in response to the larger than norm volume of Canadians travelling over to the States to take advantage of the strong dollar, and get in some pre-holiday bargains. Retailers this side of the border are being forced to compete, which is always good news for shoppers...:D

In a poll they cited 74% of Canadians are very happy with the loonie trading as high as $1.07 to the US dollar. And while I too am enjoying the benefits at the moment, if this keeps up for a lengthy period I wonder how long before Canadian manufacturers will be hurt. :-/

St. Augustine Events

With our Canadian dollar just kicking butt lately we Canucks (who are already well known as snow birds) are really enjoying the bang our cash is bringing in when visiting the US, especially our fave state Florida. :D It is true, statistically Canadians travel over all to Florida more than anywhere else.
