Going Back In Time

This week's question: What historical time period would you most like to visit? Why?

I LOVE this question, but cannot help wondering if it would not be more appropriately answered on our history blog.

When I was a kid I was fascinated by the idea of time travel! However, as an adult I recognise the inherent problems with it, and acknowledge the difference between real history, and romanticized versions of different historical eras. If there had to be one time period that I must visit, or one historical figure that I would want to meet it would be the late 14th century, and that person would be Leonardo da Vinci.

Leonardo was the "Renaissance Man," and an absolute genius! He, and he alone would not be freaked out by my visit, in fact I bet he would be completely intrigued, and accepting of my status as a time traveller.

Meeting with Leonardo would be very cool, plus I may also be able to get answers to a few modern day mysteries from him!

What a brilliant person to visit, you could look at all his drawings & see the many things he invented from the very first stage as it were, the difficulty would be in not giving too much information & knowledge away that belongs in the future but I guess no matter what time period we visited we would all be at risk of that.

An interesting figure to visit, he would definitely be one of the many great historical figures you could pick.

As for not giving out too much info, I'd say it wouldn't really matter anymore. The moment someone actually comes back from the future to begin with history is already greatly changed, so then you could just as well do the advancement of the world a favor by giving out as much information as possible to speed up technological advancement by far.

The consequences of that of course like always would be completely unpredictable, but that's life :).

Concept of Time/Space dimensions... Would you change YOUR timeline... or the new one you created while your's sails along as normal?

i.e.: If you DID go back in time and kept your parents from meeting, you wouldn't exist to go back in time to keep your parents from meeting... unless you created a new "timeline"... while your original one remains unchanged. Ergo: A new time dimension to allow your parental transgression to proceed without blipping you out of existence.
