In keeping with the upcoming Mother's Day I thought I would share this photo with you.

Ida Schmidtke age 16 and her brother Theodore age 14. Circa 1928; Vohlynia, Ukraine.
Ida was my grandmother. Her brother Theo who she is pictured with above died during WWII. Their mother died in childbirth, and from a very young age Ida took over the Mother role for her little brother.
My Oma as we called her passed away at the age of 92 here in Toronto. Her dying words were to call out for Theo who had passed on so long ago, and across the world, but who she said she could see from her bed in the nursing facility that she called home in the last couple of years of her life. This is something that profoundly affected myself, and my Mom, Ida's daughter.
Happy Photo Hunting, and to all the Mom's out there I hope your Day is a wonderful one. ![]()
Cheers!
