Kid Friendly? Walk in? Hunh? What are our plans...
...What Will PSICAN Do?...
PSICAN has already adopted the bus in it's "PSICAN for Kids" section as a sort-of ICON... Basically, a "friendly" emblem for it's work.
Now, they could have used "cartoon" UFOs, ghosts, sea monsters, and that sort of thing... but they are a serious group and didn't want to add to the "giggle-factor" of things considered paranormal... They didn't want to show kids (and adults) that even serious investigators and researchers see the study as nothing more than a cartoon... Ergo: The bus is a perfect, friendly image that does not sell the seriousness of the study short for a quick giggle.
The bus would also serve another function...
PSICAN has and will continue to attend events such as conferences and conventions. During these, a large "recognizable emblem" would be fantastic... as would a place to hold meetings and when people wished to discuss things privately, they'd have a "mobile" office of sorts.
Now, it's a given that the bus would NOT be used for investigations for one simple reason... it's difficult to maintain privacy or a sense of decorum and NOT attract attention when there's an old London bus parked nearby! That said, however, for investigations at well known sites or "public" sites, it would make an ideal mobile lab for our researchers and investigators with a minimum of alteration to the buses structure.
This is VITALLY important as "we" do believe that these buses are heritage vehicles (under 80 of this model were ever built all in 1951 and 1952...) and should be maintained. In the future, the buses might become "rolling museums" of a bygone time... and we would like to ensure that would be possible with a minimal effort for the preservationist. Therefore, PSICAN (and Matthew himself) would never do major alterations to the bus (like ripping off it's roof) without ensuring the "damage" could be undone.
Matthew has also already looked into storage, maintenance, insurance, and licensing to drive the vehicle with the help of his "enthusiast friends" and it is economically viable in the projections.
PSICAN's presence both in public and online (especially with kids!) would be greatly enhanced with the vehicle.
With children's education and working with teachers, PSICAN intends to remove the fear and "unknown" aspect of the paranormal by pointing out certain facts, experiments, and statistics... Engaging thought and logic... and allowing for imagination without fear... asking kids to engage their parents and teachers in conversation about the "unknown"... we think this is a worthy effort and combined with the other uses, the bus will only serve to augment PSICAN's efforts.
We hope you will too...
